How Moulding Can Enhance The Look of Columns

May 30, 2017 by turncraft

The practice of home interior design for beauty and comfort has been in existence since the time human discovered a defined habitation. Over the years, the practice has been evolving with new designs emerging in every generation. Although styles and times come and go, some designing principles like unity, color and focal point have remained constant. Today, moulding, interior columns‘ and trims have become great processes for adding style and character to a home’s interior rooms.

Whether you use columns to give your home designs a supplementary role or as an artistic designing element, fitting columns into the architectural plans will greatly enhance your home. Hence, ancient Roman and Greek classical column designs are still popular today, but these should not limit you from building your expected house. Premade exterior and interior manufacturers offer homeowners several different designs, shapes, and sizes to choose from. You can choose any of these and customize them to your design specifications. Adding trim and panels to your interior columns’ can add a unique touch of elegance and create harmony. If your house is old, this will bring it back to life with a newfound vibrancy sense.

How Moulding Can Enhance The Look of ColumnsAs much as most types of moulding are decorative and functional in nature, you can still install most of them to give your room more detailing and distinctive style. The materials you use can also help hide joints between floors, walls, doors, ceilings, and windows. Cascade Wood produces different styles and patterns from hardwoods and softwoods. Thus, you can use them individually or combined to create a different pattern altogether. Before you remove the paint from the older surfaces, find out if the old paint has lead-sanding or stripping because this can pose a toxic hazard. You can also purchase ready-to-paint, highly decorative high-density polymer interior column profiles.

Finish nails are helpful when fixing paneling materials in place where you set the nail-heads beneath the surface of the wood. You can then fill them with sparkling compound or pigmented wood filler if you prefer staining to painting. Since proportion is important for interior columns, put it to consideration before you set off to your designing.

Depending on your desired décor, you can use the Corinthian, Greek Ionic, or Doric interior columns. You can also use a more contemporary interior column design as these can help support doorways, archers, cabinets, and mantels. Small details like friezes, embossed ornaments, and gingerbread designs or larger architectural features including entries, fireplace surrounds, and columns are some of the ornamental paneling that you can consider.
